Starting in January 2018, the Mindful Ecotherapy Center will be offering online therapy for residents of North Carolina and South Carolina.
Online therapy offers the convenience of home-based services with the advantages of modern technology. Patients who choose this online option do not have to drive to the therapist’s office. By using your home computer or cell phone, you can schedule appointments during our regular therapy hours without having to leave your home!
Advantages of Online Therapy
Many residents of North Carolina and South Carolina live in remote or rural areas where face-to-face services may not be readily available. Online therapy services allow you to seek counseling without having to drive or find transportation to a therapist’s office.
Traditional therapy is not a good fit for many who are handicapped due to physical or mental illnesses or who are otherwise unable to leave the home due to health issues. Those who are home-bound due to mobility or health issues may also find that online therapy helps them by not requiring them to leave the home.
The current going rate for a traditional face-to-face one-hour session in the Carolinas is $120. Many find online therapy to be a more affordable option. Our online therapy services are offered at the rate of $75 per 45-minute session or $100 for a one-hour session. This rate includes up to 3 email consultations per week, plus access to our extensive online resource center.
Online therapy allows you to meet with your therapist in your own home on your own time, eliminating the need to travel to a clinic or therapist’s office. Online therapy scheduling is generally more flexible than office hours at a clinic, so you are better able to fit sessions into your own schedule.
Online therapy through the Mindful Ecotherapy gives you access to our online resources. These include videos, mp3 recordings, self-hypnosis recording, worksheets, and other tools that you may use at home to assist in your recovery.
Is Online Therapy Right for You?
While online therapy offers many advantages, it is not for everyone. Here are some questions to ask yourself to see if you might benefit from our online therapy services:
Does your insurance company reimburse you for online therapy services?
Unfortunately many insurance companies haven’t caught up with the times. For this reason, your insurance company may not reimburse you for therapy services. Because of this, our online therapy services are offered at the rate of $75 per 45-minute session or $100 for a one-hour session. This rate includes up to 3 email consultations per week, plus access to our extensive online resource center.
Are you a resident of North Carolina or South Carolina?
While some states allow out-of-state providers, many do not. In order to maintain the highest ethical and legal standards, we will initially only offer services to residents of North Carolina and South Carolina, so online services are currently limited to residents of these states.
Do you have the appropriate technology for online therapy?
In most cases, you just need a laptop with a built-in camera and microphone, or a headset. You may also use certain cell phones. Your equipment should be capable of video conferencing. It will also help to have equipment capable of sending and receiving emails, and some way of receiving, downloading, and playing video and mp3 audio files. At our initial consultation we can review appropriate technology options.
Are you prepared to handle crisis situations?
Prior to beginning online therapy you will be asked to complete a Safety Contract. This contract must include information about your local crisis response center(s) so that in case of emergency your therapist will be able to respond by contacting the proper organizations or individuals to help you through any crisis that might arise.
Do you have a serious psychiatric problem that might require in-patient treatment?
While online therapy is appropriate for many, it is not a substitute for intensive therapy or in-patient treatment. If you have a serious psychiatric problem or mental illness, online therapy might not be right for you.
Is privacy a concern?
While we take all necessary precautions to assure privacy on our end, we cannot guarantee the security of your own home system. If you do not have the proper malware protection installed on your device, we cannot guarantee its safety. If the security of your own home system is a concern for you, then you may not be a good fit for online therapy. During our initial consultation we will discuss privacy concerns and how we address them.
