The Mindfulness-Based Ecotherapy Workbook and the Mindfulness-Based Ecotherapy Workshop series were developed by Charlton Hall, LMFT/S, RPT-S, CHt as a 12-week program to help individuals re-connect with the healing power of nature. This four-part training for Mindfulness-Based Ecotherapy for mental health professionals teaches you all the basic skills you need to facilitate the 12-session Mindfulness-Based Ecotherapy (MBE) workshops. It is the central component of the MBE Facilitator Training Program for certification in Mindfulness-Based Ecotherapy.

The course will be taught on four Saturdays in May and June of 2018. Each of these four sessions is a stand-alone CEU opportunity offering 6.25 hours of continuing education for a total of 25 hours of education. Certificates of completion good for 6.25 hours will be awarded at each session. You do not have to attend all four seminars to get credit for attending any part of the series.

The seminars will be held at the Bald Rock Heritage Preserve north of Greenville, South Carolina.

Course Objectives for Part C of Mindfulness-Based Ecotherapy in Clinical Practice:

  • Discuss the concept of connecting
  • Compare and contrast connecting and centering
  • Discuss the concept of grounding
  • Discuss the concept of Nature as Metaphor
  • Discuss the concept of nature-based metaphors as a teaching and learning tool
  • Describe the concept of fully participating as it relates to Nature as Metaphor
  • Describe the process of Nature as Teacher
  • Facilitate several exercises using the healing power of nature
  • Facilitate an ‘Animal Legend’ exercise

HOW TO DRESS:
Dress casually for hiking trails. Comfortable dress and sturdy boots and/or walking shoes. You may also wish to bring sunscreen, insect repellent, hats, and water bottles.

Bald Rock Heritage Preserve

WHAT TO BRING:
This series will be held at Bald Rock Heritage Preserve near Greenville, SC (see directions below). You may wish to bring sunscreen, insect repellent, notebook, pens or pencils, water bottles, snacks (like trail mix, etc.) and a portable chair or blanket for sitting. Bald Rock is a granite outcropping, so be aware that if you don’t bring a chair or blanket you will be sitting on granite for the duration of the 6.25 hour session!

LUNCH
This seminar will be held at Bald Rock near Caesar’s Head State Park. The only easily accessible restaurant in the area is the Mountain House Restaurant. If you would prefer not to join us for lunch at the Mountain House, it is recommended that you bring a bag lunch.

WEATHER
In case of light rain, the outdoor workshops in August will continue, so please bring appropriate rain gear and/or an umbrella. In case of inclement weather (thunderstorms, etc.) make-up days will be scheduled in August 2018.

DIRECTIONS

This seminar will be held at the Bald Rock Heritage Preserve off of Highway 276 near Caesar’s Head State Park. Directions are below.
When you arrive at the park, walk across the bridge onto the rock. The Facilitator, Chuck Hall, will be wearing a tie-dyed t-shirt.

SCHOLARSHIPS
There are 6 scholarships available for interested participants. If you are awarded a scholarship you get free tuition for any of the four seminars you assist in, plus a free copy of the Mindfulness-Based Ecotherapy Workbook. Scholarship recipients will be assigned light duties assisting the instructor during each workshop. Scholarship recipients also receive free continuing education credit for each session attended.
